“Behind the Numbers”

Film-Screening and Discussion on Imagining the LGBTI+ Family

WHEN:

Sunday, May 26, 2024
1 p.m. Bangkok Time

WHERE:

The Fort and Live on The Fort’s Facebook Page

Behind the Numbers” is a short documentary that tells the story of three LGBTI+ people from three countries—an intersex individual from Zimbabwe, a lesbian couple from Bangkok, and a trans woman from The Netherlands. Each story reveals barriers they have endured and overcome as LGBTI+ people, shedding light on the struggles and triumphs of the LGBTI+ community.

As part of the Pride Month celebrations, The Fort will host a screening of the documentary, including Thai and English language subtitles, followed by a discussion with one of the film’s producers and the Thai couple featured in the film.

This screening is the first time for the documentary to be shown with Thai and English subtitles. It first premiered at the Roze Filmdagen, an LGBTQ+ Film Festival in Amsterdam, The Netherlands in March 2023 and premiered in Thailand at the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of Thailand in July 2023.

Hivos and Human Rights in the Picture, organizations that advocate for the socio-economic rights and well-being of LGBTQ+ individuals, produced the film as part of the #FreetobeMe initiative.

This in-person event is open to the public and free of charge. It will also be livestreamed on The Fort’s Facebook page with simultaneous Thai and English language interpretation.

  • Chayanit Itthipongmaetee, one of the producers of “Behind the Numbers”
