Meet the Changemakers: The Milk Tea Alliance Thailand
On July 30, The Fort organized the first “Meet the Changemakers” event featuring the Milk Tea Alliance Thailand.
The Milk Tea Alliance Thailand is a member of the transnational online Milk Tea Alliance movement of pro-democracy human rights activists opposed to authoritarianism in Asia. Named after a popular drink, the Milk Tea Alliance started in April 2020 as a hashtag used by Thai, Hong Kong, and Taiwanese netizens to counter the “One China” policy that views Taiwan as part of China. The larger netizen-led movement now engages in activities to end authoritarian rule and has opposed the coups in Thailand and Myanmar. The Milk Tea Alliance Thailand works to mobilize activist organizations throughout Asia in support of joint solidarity actions.
The Fort’s “Meet the Changemakers” events provide an opportunity to engage with and learn about the activities and initiatives of individuals, organizations, and coalitions dedicated to creating positive, rights-based change in Asia.
